The Haunted Morey Mansion In Redlands, California

It was a cool summer night, when I decided to drop by in Redlands to visit a relative. The smell of the orange groves, the citrus feel. I was informed of a beautiful mansion that was haunted in the local area. The mansion belonged to a couple named David and Sarah Morey who built the house in 1890 from the profits in the citrus industry. After the couple started to live inside the house, Sarah mysteriously died of a sudden illness causing David to distance himself from the mansion him and his wife built. David fell into a deep alcoholism and moved into the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. Within a year he had committed suicide and was found hanging in his room.

In attempt to investigate the grounds of the Morey Mansion, no calls were ever returned to me. After several tries, I gave up trying to gain access to investigate the mansion. But it didn't stop me from visiting the house on another night, taking front pictures, in hopes of trying to get some evidence. No luck though. An investigation at this house would be great. Just wish I would of had some luck trying to gain access.

On several occasions many guests have reported paranormal activity, from hearing objects falling and loud bangs in other rooms, without finding any reason, to having door knobs rattling in the middle of the night. There are also reports that doors will open and close, and the sound of children can be heard playing. This lmansion was once a bed and breakfast, but it is now under private ownership. Many of the guests to the Bed and Bread complained to the then owners of several apparitions including a little girl, an old man, who was once a caretaker for the mansion and a young boy have been seen, and although most sightings seemed friendly in nature they still scarred off a lot of the clientele. The Morey Mansion is another one of Redlands more famous estates. It is widely considered to be one of the more beautiful homes in Redlands.

  1. How very rude of "anonymous". Beautiful mansion. It totally reminds me of the house I just read about today with a similar mansard roof sticking out the top on a widows watch. I'm in love with it. http://hookedonhouses.net/2013/08/05/before-after-saving-a-grand-old-house-in-texas/

  2. This is a private residence. That is why you aren't getting any calls returned about investigating it. I wouldn't want people trampling all over my Victorian home, either.

  3. According to Find A Grave, David Morey commited suicide by gunshot rather than hanging. This mansion is a private residence, and although I can understand why the owner might not want strangers in their home, they should have had least had the courtesy to return your call.

  4. Have investigated this location many times, as well as spent the night and used to babysit here as a teen. It is haunted, but not like the movies.

  5. This is a private residence. What part of private don't you understand? Would you want someone calling your house asking to investigate just because it's reportedly haunted? No, you would not and you wouldn't return their calls, either. Respect that.

  6. The Moreys living in the home for about 10 years then Sarah died in the Blue Room. David shot himself in a room at the hotel Del Coronado for some reason the hanging idea has been floating around for some time but is not the case. Morey Mansion was given the title "America's Favorite Victorian" and she is something to see . I live 3 streets down from her and is like seeing an old friend everyday when coming home. It's Believed that Sarah haunts the blue room and a former caretaker haunts the grounds and a little girl runs the halls up stairs.

  7. I've been in the house before. I've been investigating it for years. I visited their graves and during the tour I had of this mansion the lady who lives their had to say that it "wasn't haunted" even though nobody brought it up. I went to hotel Del Coronado from a different story. I never knew that's where David stayed. I remember reading a different story about the Moray Mansion 3 years ago, it mentioned something about a blue room upstairs, and that Sarah died upstairs. During my tour they wouldn't let us go upstairs because it was a private area. Over the years the fact of a blue door disappeared from all articles and im unable to find it anymore. Something about this house is just not right. I hope I helped with some ones investigation.

  8. I lived there sporadically during the 1980's and the house is haunted. I assume it is Sarah. That is the only ghost I encountered, and she was a very nice lady. I find the other stories quiet suspect since I have been in every nook and cranny and the only place I encountered a ghost was upstairs in the Lombard bedroom (middle north side) From what others have said, the blue room (south side) may be the most frequent place that people see her. We would not tell people before bed time about her and often people would come down to breakfast the next morning and tell us. Sometimes, we'd prompt them with "Did you see her?"
